GOVERNOR’S STATEMENT ABOUT OPEN
LOOP SYSTEM ON LIQUEFIED NATURAL GAS TERMINALS
"Louisiana is blessed with abundant natural
resources. As a steward of the environment, I am concerned about
the open loop system and the unknown effects it could have on
populations of marine species. I have spoken with the President
of Shell Oil. The company has pledged to work with the state and
the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries to closely examine the
impact of the open loop system on our Gulf Coast marine life. I
expect that we will develop a plan that could be used as a model
for other Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminals still in the
proposal stages. The environmental safeguards we help build into
this project will also protect other states' marine fisheries
resources as LNG terminals are built elsewhere."
- Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco
